I Samuel 10:17-27
Saul Selected to be King
Having demanded that Samuel give them a king, the leaders of Israel were summoned by the prophet to Mizpeh. There they no doubt expected a solemn coronation ceremony. What they participated in was more of a tragi-comic display of their own folly. The absurdity of rejecting God's kingship was duly demonstrated at Mizpeh. Nevertheless, God's hand may be discerned accomplishing His ends in Israel.
