I Samuel 10:1-16
Samuel Anoints Saul
Samuel was now faced with a difficult, two-fold task: to convince Saul to take up the kingship and to convince him to do so in the name of the Lord. Samuel knew from the Lord that the first of these tasks would be accomplished and that he would fail in the second. Indeed, though Saul heard God's Word proclaimed, saw tangible proofs of its truth, and experienced a genuine spiritual ecstasy most men will never know, his attitude toward the calling of God remained unmoved. He did not believe God's message, and he would not truly submit to His rule.
